Title: Quantum Error Correction from a Classical-Friendly World-View
Abstract: Quantum error correction is the foundation for protecting quantum systems and scaling up the number of quantum devices to perform highly complex tasks. In this talk, we will give a gentle introduction to one of the well-known families of quantum error-correcting codes, the quantum stabilizer codes, which have been developed since 1990 by Shor, Laflamme, and Gottesman, among others. Such codes have also recently been discovered to make quantum computers much more efficient than before. We will discuss the main feature for decoding quantum stabilizer codes, degeneracy, which does not occur in the classical world but from a classical-friendly perspective.
